Some Facts About Our Kiwi Fruit

Mr. Sigdel was kind enough to share some interesting facts about Kiwi fruit.

Kiwi fruit usually grows from November till February in this region of Nepal, meaning we are getting to the end of the season now. After the kiwi seed is planed it should be left for 2 years, after which time it will start to produce fruit each year following. In order for the fertilization to occur, you need at least one male and one female plant. This is unique to Kiwi fruits.

Kiwi fruit is described as a unique mixed flavour of banana, strawberry and pineapple. It has been proven to aid in weight loss and the promotion of healthy immune system functioning to protect against fatal disease like cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The Best Ways to Enjoy Kiwi Fruit

Mr. Sigdel favourite way to enjoy kiwi fruits he says, homemade kiwi jam! He suggests kiwi can also be blended into smoothies and juices to provide a sweet and tart element. They can also be cut up and enjoyed in fruit salad.

A tip from Mr. Sigdel, If you find Kiwi fruit to be too ripe for peeling, simply add them to a bowl of cold water with ice for 5 minutes. This will firm the fruit and make it easier to work with.

Don’t want to fuss with peeling, kiwis make a great on-the-go snack! Cut them in half crosswise and use a spoon to scoop out the sweet flesh. Nothing better than eco-friendly packaging!
